Salaries Rising Due to Competition? Duh!

Yet again, more proof of what we public accounting recruiters have known for a while - competition is fierce and pay is going up because of this.

This week the new Robert Half International salary guide was released. Again, showing that pay for public accounting professionals is rising. Read an article here on ERE.net by Elaine Rigoli with more information regarding this topic.

Public Accounting CEO's - Want YOU!

So, you found this blog - you cynical lurker or current public accounting professional - and you want to know why you should consider a career in public accounting or in fact, continue your career in public accounting. Why? Why? Why?

Here's why:

High Starting Salaries
According to several sources, including the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Accountant salaries have been steadily increasing since 1990 and are expected to continue on this trend into 2008.

Job Stability
The number of accounting professionals needed in public accounting has been increasing year over year as well. Since 2002's Sarbanes Oxley legislation came into existence, the workload faced by public accountants has increased by an estimated third. Tighter audit guidelines, means more time spent by public accountants out in the field auditing clients. There have also been some major changes to the U.S. Government Auditing Standards in 2007.

Power to the People
Anyone thinking about a career in public accounting should consider this moment in time as being extremely advantageous for career advancement. Due to the high demand for talented CPA's in public accounting, candidates can drive the hiring process to their advantage.

Faster Path to the Top
Although most growth seems to be taking place in the audit sector, all areas within public accounting are growing. According to a Rosenberg survey, on average, in 2006 most public accounting firms revenue grew by 11.4%, at least. Combine this with an estimated 4-9% of all firms' partners retiring in the next year and you have a formula equalling huge growth potentials at all levels within public accounting firms.

If you're looking for a reason to pursue a career in public accounting, these are just a few. Most public accountants would tell you that these are minor reasons why they chose the field and continue to practice - most would tell you it's about helping people and businesses to succeed and the satisfaction that comes from providing a top notch service.

Welcome to the CPA Recruiter Blog

September 24, 2007
Welcome to The CPA Recruiter blog. I started this blog for several reasons, one is self-serving I'll admit. I am a recruiter after all and I might as well be honest. I am hoping that this blog will provide an outlet for anyone interested in the field of public accounting and CPA's who are passively looking for new public accounting opportunities to feel comfortable in discussing what they are looking for and comfortable with me helping them find it.

Secondly, I would seriously like to provide information to anyone interested in public accounting and all CPA's in public accounting (or thinking about returning to public accounting) to help them decide to make a lifelong career in this industry. This will include information provided from all levels (Associate to Partner) in all firms (Sole Proprietor to Big 4).

Lastly, I would like to provide an unbiased forum for discussing all public accounting firms - large and small - and what makes them all so special. This is not a site for "trashing" other firms. Every firm is unique in its' culture and client base. Finding the right fit is the key to having a successful career in public accounting.

Public accountants should know that they are in a unique situation in the current worldwide marketplace. There aren't enough public accountants to go around for the current demand - this, on top of the employment black hole soon-to-be created by retiring baby-boomers. For the public accounting industry to grow and thrive, we all need to find a way to bring more talented people into this field and debunk all of the myths about working in public accounting (100% travel, no life, no path to partner, etc.). I hope this site becomes a link to bringing more people into and keeping more talented professionals in public accounting.
Sincerely,
The CPA Recruiter
